Dear friends in Jesus Christ

Today we celebrate the fourth Sunday of Easter, being still in the Easter celebration, that is the celebration of the risen Lord.

I am sure you would have gone through the tree text passages  of today”s celebration and you would have noticed the key theme of today’s Word of God.

After reading the three text passages  from the Bible I would say the theme in two sentences.

1. There are people who listen to the Word of God and remain forever.

2. There are people who do not listen to the Word of God and never remain in the presence of God.

To support to the theme, I directly highlight the shadow of the reflection from those passages.

From the first reading………

“It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first,
but since you reject it
and condemn yourselves as unworthy of eternal life,
we now turn to the Gentiles.”

From the second reading …….

“These are the ones who have survived the time of great distress;
they have washed their robes
and made them white in the blood of the Lamb”

Gospel passage….

“My sheep hear my voice;
I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.”

Now let us reflect more deeply on both sides of the people.

Word of God is common to all people

God is continually giving the living Word of God to all; to the good people as well as to the bad people hoping that they will come back to God one day . The good example is ….

“….that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” [Matthew 5:45].

1. The people who do not listen to the Word of God remain in the presence of God.

From the beginning of the time there have been people who don’t listen to the Word of God.

Why  don’t they  want to listen to the Word of God?

The parable of the sower is a good example to reflect on the aspect of why the people do not want to listen to the Word of God.

As it is mentioned in the parable of the sower, there are three kinds of people in the way they behave when they listen to the Word of God.

1. First type - they do not want the Word of God  because –

“the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart” (Mathew 13:18)

2. Second type - they don’t want , because

“When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.” (Mathew 13:21)

3. Third type - They don’t want Word of God, because –

“but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.” (Mathew 13:22)

Romans 11:25 I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in,

We can conclude these people like

They are more attached to the evil one, soft life and worldly wealth.

1. There are people who listen to the Word of God and remain forever.

God’s people are all over the. Even though there are people who reject the Word of God, there are people also who love God and work for God. Those people are called chosen people for they were not only chosen by God but also they chose God as their supreme head of their life.

Abraham was faithful to God

Moses was faithful to God

Jesus is faithful to God and his followers too

“For he was faithful to God, who appointed him, just as Moses served faithfully when he was entrusted with God’s entire house.” (Heb 3:2)

The book of revelation is speaking about the chosen people  who  are faithful on earth and heaven.

“For this reason they stand before God’s throne
and worship him day and night in his temple.

Sheep and flock – Ownership

When Jesus says “my sheep know my voice”, we could understand the ownership of God. If we belong to the flock of Jesus, we will listen to the voice of God. if we belong to the flock of Satan we will not listen to the voice of Jesus. We should not forget that we belong to the  flock of heavenly kingdom where we will live forever.

Ezekiel 34:6 My sheep wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. They were scattered over the whole earth, and no one searched or looked for them.

Ezekiel 34:12 As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.

John 10:4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.

1 Peter 2:25 For “you were like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Conclusion: What is the expectation  of God from me today?

1. God wants me to listen to him

2. God wants me to accept his Words

3. God wants me to avoid evils

3. God wants me to serve  for him

4. God wants  me to be the sheep of his flock

5. God wants me to praise him only always.
